Коробка передач (transmission, gearcase) у top-load превращает вращение мотора в качание агитатора/диска при стирке и в прямое вращение корзины при отжиме. Внутри шестерни в масле.
- Старые Whirlpool/Kenmore direct drive: коробка под баком по центру, мотор сбоку через муфту (motor coupling); крепится 3 болтами снизу.
- Старые Whirlpool belt drive, Maytag: большая коробка под баком, привод ремнём.
- Whirlpool/Maytag VMW, Cabrio, Bravos: планетарный редуктор (gearcase) под баком, привод ремнём через splutch.
- GE top-load: gearcase с mode shifter и муфтой/тормозом.
У front-load коробки передач нет.
On a top-load the transmission (gearcase) turns motor rotation into agitator/wash-plate oscillation during wash and direct basket rotation during spin. Gears run in oil inside.
- Old Whirlpool/Kenmore direct drive: gearcase centered under the tub, motor on the side via the motor coupling; 3 bolts underneath.
- Old Whirlpool belt drive, Maytag: a large gearcase under the tub, belt driven.
- Whirlpool/Maytag VMW, Cabrio, Bravos: a planetary gearcase under the tub, belt driven through the splutch.
- GE top-load: gearcase with the mode shifter and clutch/brake.
Front-loads have no transmission.
Признаки поломкиSymptoms when it fails
- Мотор работает, ремень/муфта целы, а агитатор не качается (или крутится только в одну сторону).Motor runs, belt/coupling OK, but the agitator does not move (or turns only one way).

- ❌ НеисправнаFaulty
Хруст, заклинивание, люфт вала, масло под машиной, вал агитатора не двигается при прокрутке — замена коробки (или машины, если ремонт нерентабелен).
Crunching, binding, shaft play, oil under the washer, agitator shaft does not move when the input is turned — replace the gearcase (or the washer if not economical).
Обесточить. Исключить дешёвое: храповики агитатора, шлицы агитатора (drive bell), муфта мотора (old DD), ремень и splutch (VMW), актуатор (VMW).
Unplug. Rule out cheap parts first: agitator dogs, agitator drive splines, motor coupling (old DD), belt and splutch (VMW), actuator (VMW).
Снять агитатор и проверить шлицы вала — не сорваны ли.
Remove the agitator and check the shaft splines — stripped?
Снизу (сняв ремень/мотор) провернуть входной вал коробки рукой: вал агитатора должен качаться; не должно быть хруста и заклинивания.
From below (belt/motor removed) turn the gearcase input by hand: the agitator shaft should oscillate; no crunching or binding.
Осмотреть коробку на масляные подтёки и трещины корпуса.
Inspect the gearcase for oil leaks and housing cracks.
🔧 ЗаменаReplacement
- Работа крупная (1.5–3 ч). Обесточить, перекрыть воду, снять агитатор/диск (болт под колпачком, иногда «прикипевший» — для застрявшего диска есть отдельные приёмы).
- Old Whirlpool DD: снять корпус, насос, мотор; снять гайку вала в баке; снизу открутить 3 болта коробки и опустить её вниз; переставить муфту.
- VMW/Cabrio: положить машину на перед, снять ремень, шкив, splutch, затем ступицу/болты gearcase; часто удобнее менять gearcase через бак сверху (по инструкции модели).
- Собрать с новыми уплотнениями, проверить стирку и отжим, у Whirlpool прогнать калибровку.
- A big job (1.5–3 h). Unplug, shut off water, remove the agitator/wash plate (bolt under the cap; a stuck plate needs special tricks).
- Old Whirlpool DD: remove cabinet, pump, motor; remove the shaft nut in the tub; remove the 3 gearcase bolts underneath and drop it; transfer the coupling.
- VMW/Cabrio: lay the washer on its front, remove belt, pulley, splutch, then the hub/gearcase bolts; on some models the gearcase comes out through the tub from above (per the model's instructions).
- Reassemble with new seals, test wash and spin, run calibration on Whirlpool.
