Use this guide to diagnose and repair a water leak in an Electrolux ESF 6240 dishwasher that leaks heavily while filling. The likely source is a small hose that has slipped off the fill solenoid valve, also called the inlet valve or electrovalve. Reattaching the hose and replacing a weak clamp can stop water from spraying through the dishwasher during the fill cycle. This guide was written for the Electrolux ESF 6240, and other models may have minor panel or screw differences.
🧰 Tools
- Shop Towels or Rags
- 6-in-1 Screwdriver
- Large Needle Nose Pliers
⚙️ Parts
- WH1X2036 - Washer Hose Clamp Kit
- Hose & Cuff Assembly
ШагиSteps
1
Prepare the dishwasher
- Pull the dishwasher out only as far as needed, and don't strain the water hose, drain hose, or power cord.
2
Confirm the leak timing
- Check whether the dishwasher leaks when the fill solenoid valve activates to load water.
- Look for water coming from below the fill solenoid valve area.
3
Remove the top panel
- Use a screwdriver to remove the screws securing the top panel at its two mounting points.
- Lift the top panel to release the interlocking tabs holding it in place.
- Set the top panel aside on a stable surface.
4
Remove the outer panel
- Use a screwdriver to remove the visible screws securing the outer panel.
- Remove the panel to expose the fill tank area.
5
Inspect the hose at the solenoid valve
- Find the small hose connected near the fill solenoid valve.
- Check whether the hose has slipped off its fitting.
- Inspect the hose end, fitting, and nearby passage for a visible obstruction.
- Check whether the hose clamp is loose, weak, or damaged.
6
Secure the hose and clamp
- Push the hose fully back onto the solenoid valve fitting.
- Use pliers or a screwdriver to position the hose clamp over the fitting.
- Replace the hose clamp if it doesn't hold the hose firmly.
- Replace the hose if the end is split, stretched, or unable to stay on the fitting.
7
Reinstall the panels
- Reinstall the outer panel over the fill tank area.
- Use a screwdriver to reinstall the screws removed from the outer panel.
- Set the top panel back onto the dishwasher and engage its interlocking tabs.
- Use a screwdriver to reinstall the two top panel screws.
8
Test for leaks
- Turn the water supply back on and plug in the dishwasher.
- Start a fill cycle and watch the solenoid valve area for drips.
- Recheck that the hose is fully seated and the clamp is tight if the leak returns.
- Look again for an obstruction near the hose connection if water pressure keeps pushing the hose off.
Run a short fill cycle and check for any remaining drips before returning the dishwasher to normal use. Take your e-waste to an R2 or e-Stewards certified recycler. Repair didn't go as planned? Ask our Answers community for help.
