Use this guide to clean a Bosch front-loading washing machine with the Drum Clean cycle. The cycle uses very hot water and a washing machine cleaner to clean the drum, detergent dispenser area, and internal pipework. Run it every few months or about every 30 wash cycles to reduce bacteria, mold, and stale odors, especially if you often use cold, 30 °C, or 40 °C washes. This procedure applies to Bosch washers with a Drum Clean option, but some models may use a Service option or a manually selected 90 °C wash instead.
🧰 Tools
- Washing machine cleaner
ШагиSteps
1
Prepare for a hot cleaning cycle
- Run this cleaning routine every few months or about every 30 wash cycles.
- Use it sooner if the washer smells stale or if you mostly wash with cold, 30 °C, or 40 °C cycles.
- Make sure the drum is empty.
2
Clean common buildup areas
- If possible, inspect, remove, and clean the pump filter before running Drum Clean.
- Clean the detergent dispenser drawer and the area inside the drawer opening.
3
Add the washing machine cleaner
- Use one dose of a washing machine cleaner made for front-loading washers.
- Pour the cleaner powder directly into the washing machine drum.
- Close the washer door.
4
Select a hot cleaning program
- Select the Drum Clean option on the control panel.
- If the washer doesn't have Drum Clean, select the Service option.
- If neither option is available, choose any wash program that lets you set 90 °C.
- Turn on the child lock if the washer has one.
5
Run the Drum Clean cycle
- Start the cycle.
- Expect the drum to get very soapy during the cleaning portion.
- The cycle cleans the dispenser drawer area, drum, and internal pipework.
- It helps kill bacteria and remove mold.
- Near the end, the washer rinses with very hot water and runs a spin.
6
Finish the cycle
- Wait until the program ends and the door lock releases.
- Turn off the child lock if you turned it on.
- Switch off the washer.
- Open the door.
- Check that the drum looks clean and smells fresh.
7
Ventilate the washer
- After any wash program, leave the detergent dispenser drawer slightly ajar.
- Leave the main drum door slightly ajar.
8
Check persistent odors
- If odors remain after Drum Clean, inspect the pump filter for a blockage.
- Check the drainage hose for a blockage if the washer still smells.
- Clean the dispenser drawer and drawer opening if you didn't clean them before the cycle.
Run this cleaning routine every few months or about every 30 wash cycles, and keep the door and dispenser drawer ajar after washes so the machine can dry. If odors come back after cleaning the pump filter, dispenser drawer, and drain path, the washer may need additional drainage troubleshooting. Repair didn't go as planned?
