How to Troubleshoot Drainage Issues in a Beko Washing Machine

Use this guide to troubleshoot a Beko front-loading washing machine that won't drain, leaves clothes wet, or finishes a rinse and spin cycle with water still in the drum. The drainage filter, pump filter, or coin catcher traps debris before it reaches the drain pump, so cleaning it can often restore normal draining. This guide was written for a Beko front-loading washing machine, but other models may have minor differences.
🧰 Tools
- Bucket
- Waterproof gloves
- Scrubbing Sponge
- Shallow tray
- Shop Towels or Rags
- Brush
- Washing machine cleaner
ШагиSteps
1
Make the washing machine safe
- Locate the cold water power supply hose at the back of the machine and turn the tap 90 degrees to shut it off.
- If you can't find the cold water hose, turn off the water at the stopcock.
- If the drum still contains water, carefully open the door and use a sponge to remove as much water as possible.
2
Drain water from the emergency hose
- Pull open the service flap in the bottom right corner of the front panel.
- Unclip the small drain hose and pull it out from the machine.
- Place a shallow tray or bowl under the hose, because the built-in tray doesn't hold much water.
- Remove the cap from the hose and let the water drain slowly.
- Empty the tray or bowl into a sink as it fills, because a blocked machine may release three or four trays of water.
3
Remove the drainage filter
- Place an old towel or sponge under the drainage filter to catch the remaining water.
- Turn the drainage filter slowly to loosen it and let the water drip out gradually.
- If the filter is hard to turn, tighten it and loosen it repeatedly to work the blockage free.
- Pull the filter out once it turns freely.
4
Clean the filter and coin catcher
- Remove any debris from the filter, including hair clips, coins, hair bands, or face masks.
- Use a brush and hot, soapy water to scrub the filter clean.
- Remove any hair tangled around the filter.
5
Clean the impeller opening
- Reach into the filter opening and gently check that the impeller at the back spins freely.
- Remove any debris from the back of the opening.
- Use a brush and hot, soapy water to clean inside the filter opening.
- Use a kitchen cloth to wipe the inside of the opening clean.
6
Reinstall the filter and test for leaks
- Line up the drainage filter and turn it clockwise until it locks into position.
- Plug the washing machine back in, switch it on, and turn the cold water feed back on.
- Run a drum clean cycle or an empty 90 °C wash with washing machine cleaner if available.
- Watch the filter area during the wash to make sure it doesn't leak.
7
Prepare to check the drainage pipework
- Identify whether the drainage hose runs into a wall standpipe or connects under the sink.
- Place a bucket or bowl nearby before removing any hose, because smelly water can spill out.
- For a wall standpipe, lift the washing machine drain hose out of the top of the pipe.
- Clean any sludge from the outside of the hose end.
8
Inspect the wall standpipe
- Use a mobile phone in video mode with the flashlight on to record inside the standpipe.
- Review the footage and check whether the pipe shows clear water or heavy sludge.
- Place a tray under the U-bend at the bottom of the standpipe.
- Undo the tighteners on the U-bend if they can be removed safely.
- Clean the U-bend until water can flow freely through it.
- Line the U-bend back up and tighten it securely.
9
Refit the standpipe drain hose
- Insert the washing machine drain hose back into the standpipe.
- Push the hose in gently about half a foot to a foot.
10
Inspect the under sink drain connection
- For an under-sink setup, release the clip holding the drain hose to the connector.
- Gently slide the hose off and drain any water into a bucket.
- Check that the hose end and connector are in good condition and clear of blockages.
- Undo the under-sink U-bend and check inside for sludge or blockages.
- Clean out any sludge or debris you find.
11
Flush the machine after clearing pipework
- Plug the washing machine back in and switch it on.
- Turn the cold water feed back on.
- Run an empty 90 °C wash with washing machine cleaner if available.
- Watch the drain hose, filter, and pipe connections for leaks while the machine fills and drains.
12
Check outside drainage or call a professional
- If the washer still won't drain, check any outside drainage on the property if you can access it safely.
- Lift accessible drainage covers and look for blockages.
- Arrange a CCTV drainage survey if you can't access the drain covers or need to confirm the pipework is flowing smoothly.
13
Ventilate the washer after use
- Leave the dispenser drawer slightly ajar after a washing program.
- Leave the drum door slightly open to help ventilation and reduce smells and mold.
After the filter, impeller, and drainage pipework are clear, the washer should drain normally during a rinse and spin or empty 90 °C wash. Repair didn't go as planned? Ask our Answers community for help.
